Training
There are two training opportunities coming up that you don't want to
miss. Both are being funded through Homeland Security grant funds that
we may not get again. Don't miss your chance to get this training in
while DHS is picking up the tab. I know it is difficult to take the
time away from your work and family obligations to do these training
classes, but they are necessary. Completing the NIMS compliance
requirements for your agency means that your county, your colleagues in
Clinton County, and your own agency will be eligible for federal grants
and receive favorable treatment on competitive grants. Not to mention,
having a larger number if people with the tools and training to use ICS
in a large incident is a pretty good thing too! We are trying as best
we can to use the funds available to give as many opportunities as
possible to get the needed training at times that fit people's
schedules.

ICS-300:

So far we have offered a Day and a Night ICS-300 class. We had budget
for one more 300 class and from the feedback we got, the demand was for
another daytime 300 class. So the next ICS-300 class will be offered on
Wed June 6 through Thursday June 7, 2007 from 9-5 each day at the
Capital City Airport Community Room. Lunch and snacks will be provided
each day. If you are uncertain whether you need this training, please
contact Larry St. George at (989) 227-6595 or Steve Lehman at 989-227-6595.
If you are the representative to the EOC staff for your discipline, you
probably need this training. The attached FAQ sheet might also help you
decide. This will be the last ICS-300 class offered by the county from current
available funding by our county. Other classes may be available in other
jurisdictions, but there are no guarantees. Please send me an email to
sign up for this class. The class is limited to 30 people and 15 seats
are already accounted for. If the class is not full by 5/25, we will
open up the remaining seats to our regional jurisdictions and agencies.

FireTrax Operational Training:

The other opportunity is for our FireTrax Personnel Accountability
system. As many of you know, this system uses barcoded ID cards and a
scanner to help incident commanders keep track of personnel on an
incident scene. Between the Sheriff's Office and DeWitt Township FD,
we are working to provide all responders in the county a firetrax id
card (more on that later). This training will be for the use of the
actual on-scene system and will be given by a representative from
Salamander Technologies, the vendor for FireTrax. These training
sessions were paid for when we bought the system, so let's take
advantage of the money we spent. What will be covered is how to use the
scanners and the computer system to do accountability at a scene. Each
agency that might be responsible for an incident and personnel
accountability should send a couple of representatives to this training
to get the information. Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, SOT, SRT, and
Mounted Div. are obvious choices, but it's open to anyone. There are
two different classes…one daytime and one nighttime. The evening class
will be Tuesday May 22 from 6-10pm at the Sheriff's Office Squad Room.
The day class will be Wed May 23 from 9-1pm also at the Sheriff's
dept. I need to have an idea of how many people will attend each
session so I can plan for copies, materials, etc. Please email me and
let me know which session you would like to attend. If you have
questions about FireTrax, please contact Chief Koos at the Dewitt
Township Fire Department or Larry St. George.

Contact Captain Dahlke for more details.
